Help my family pay for my mother’s funeral

Hey, guys. I’m sure many of you are aware of what’s been going on with me irl, but for those of you who don’t know, allow me to explain.

My name is Lina, I’m a freelance artist, and several months ago my mother was diagnosed with stage four, terminal cancer in her intestines. even with treatment, the doctors gave her until the end of the year to live. This diagnosis came as a shock, and so soon after my dad passed away only two years ago. it was the last thing we ever expected to happen.

still, we didn’t want to give up, and wanted to provide my mom with treatment, but because she didn’t have insurance, my sisters and i paid what we could for her treatment out of our pockets. we took care of her, and for a while, she seemed like she was getting better, but then her health took a turn for the worst in the last few months.

she fought this wretched cancer for over seven, excruciating months. despite all our efforts and hopes, the morning of October 8th, at the age of 58 my mother passed away.

in the span of only two years we’ve lost both our parents. now, aside from having to shoulder my mom’s medical bills, we have to take care of funeral costs as well. but we cannot do this alone, so we’ve launched a GoFundMe so that we may raise funds to cover the costs of my mother’s funeral, and her medical bills.

friends and family have already generously donated, but we need all the help we can get. please, even $1 will help us, and will be greatly appreciated. however, if you are unable to donate, then please reblog this post so that others will see it, sharing our gofundme on facebook and twitter will also help spread the word.

I’m sorry if you’re tired of seeing me talk about this, and would rather i posted more art, but this matter affects me directly, and i have no other choice but to bring it to people’s attention.

Thank you very much for reading.

Hi!!! Our online store is back open! Thank you for your support in 2016. We are committed in writing new tips for 2017. Today Tuesday Tips is on the color BLUE. Definitely one of my favorite color. I think of Norm when I think the color blue, because he has blue eyes. When I was a kid I used to think that people with blue eyes sees the world in blue, like if you were wearing a blue tinted glass. Ha! Anyhoo… back to being serious. Blue is one of the primary color. Most people would say blue is their favorite color. It is the color of water and sky. It has both positive and negative association. On then positive side, it means loyalty, trust, wisdom, serenity, peace, a calming color. On the negative association, it means sadness, coldness, depression. All and all, blue is an awesome color. As to what makes blue looks good? The simple answer would be basic color theory of analogous, complementary, split complementary, triadic, and neutral. For winsor and newton paint, I use – primary blue, ultramarine, prussian, cobalt, Cobalt Turquoise Light and sky blue. Do you have a favorite blue? xo, Griz #griz #grizandnorm #tuesdaytips #arttips #arttutorial #colortheory #color #blue #winsorandnewton

I'm actually surprised how scared everyone is. I mean, yeah, this totally sucks but half the country isn't ready to start slaughtering people. Many of the people I know who voted trump think he's a total douche. He exposed a lot of crazies, but half the country isn't ready to start fighting against differences in race, sexuality, and gender. Many are just stumped (trumped) and dunno what else to do. We are still one American people. We can't let ourselves be divided. We need more love right now.

Yep, and it’s the pattern america has always followed. Every couple elections we swing back from a democratic president to a republican one, and vice versa. It’s because people get disillusioned with the state of the country, get mad, and swing violently the other way to see if the opposite political party will make things better. Then they get frustrated and switch again some 4 or 8 years later.

Not to mention Trump didn’t call himself republican until he was nominated, and a lot of right wingers don’t like many of his crazier ideas. That said, even a republican majority congress/senate would still most likely prevent him from doing something -totally- reckless.

THINGS A PRESIDENT CANNOT DO:

  • Reverse any Supreme Court decision
    • This includes Obergefell v. Hodges, which made same-sex marriage a constitutional right; Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, which reaffirmed a woman’s right to choose first articulated in Roe v. Wade, another Supreme Court case. Grutter v. Bollinger, which instituted affirmative action, the entire body of Civil Rights case law, plus anything related to due process, including the right of minors to due process, your right to an attorney, Miranda rights, inadmissible evidence, etc.
    • (Even if Trump appoints the worst possible SC nominee, they still can’t reverse any of these decisions without a really significant case coming before the Court with new facts, and then they have to write an opinion stating how this case is different than that other case…it’s unlikely to happen.)
  • Write law or repeal any existing law
    • While traditionally, presidents have exerted influence on the legislative agenda (see, Obama’s role in advancing and promoting the Affordable Care Act) they cannot actually write or pass legislation. Bills, joint resolutions, concurrent resolutions, and simple resolutions must be introduced in the House by a Representative.
    • Presidents cannot strike down law. Only Congress can repeal laws, and only the Supreme Court can strike them down as unconstitutional.
    • Presidential influence is just that—influence.
    • (And if—for example—you are hated by 95% of the party you joined last week, and burned all your goddamn bridges by insulting them at various points in your campaign…..they’re unlikely to partner with you in crafting legislation.)
  • Make any law or declaration that infringes in any way on the rights of the states
    • So in the US, most of the rights are reserved to the states. You name it, it’s a state-run power. Criminal procedure and law? States. Medicare and Medicaid? States. The definition of marriage? States. Insurance, health departments, housing, unemployment benefits, public education, all these are state programs. And the president cannot infringe on those powers given to the states.
    • (This is why down-ticket voting is so important, because Mike Pence as governor of Indiana had 800x the power he’s going to have as VP.)
  • Declare war.
    • This one is the most complicated, because with the advent of our “conflicts” in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc. there has been a significant shift in the articulation of the war doctrine, and it is one of the least restricted of the president’s “restricted” powers. But, despite all that, a president still has no power to declare war.
  • Unilaterally appoint heads of administrative departments
  • Unilaterally make treaties with foreign nations

Essentially, while presidents have a lot of power, it’s mostly unofficial—they can’t make sweeping laws, they can’t overturn existing rights, the most they can do is refuse to enforce them (which is absolutely a threat! and a problem! but we aren’t electing de facto royalty.
